Our Story
Building Smarter Retail Solutions
Tonmous is a Canadian Controlled Private Corporation (CCPC) building the infrastructure for the next generation of retail and delivery. We specialize in AI-powered, autonomous systems — from checkout-free micro-stores and smart vending fridges to IoT-enabled café stations and package retrieval lockers — all designed to work seamlessly in Canadian environments.
Founded to eliminate friction from everyday retail interactions, Tonmous blends deep tech with real-world usability. Our systems are powered by computer vision, edge AI, and sensor fusion — enabling 24/7, staff-free experiences that are fast, secure, and intuitive. And as a Canadian entity, we operate independently of cross-border complexities, ensuring full alignment with local regulations and data privacy expectations.
Whether you’re looking to modernize a condo lobby, enhance an office campus, or serve a remote community, Tonmous makes autonomous retail deployable, scalable, and trustworthy — right here in Canada.

FAQs
What is Autonomous Checkout?
Autonomous Checkout is a technology that allows customers to walk into a store, pick up what they need, and walk out without scanning items, standing in line, or interacting with a cashier. Using AI-powered computer vision and sensor fusion, the system automatically detects what was taken and securely processes the payment in the background.
How is Autonomous Checkout different from Self Checkout?
Self Checkout still relies on customers to manually scan barcodes, tap through menus, and often request staff assistance. Autonomous Checkout removes checkout entirely. No scanning, no kiosks, no lines — everything is handled passively by the system as the customer shops.
How is Autonomous Checkout better than Self Checkout?
Autonomous Checkout provides a faster, smarter, and more seamless experience for both shoppers and operators. It eliminates lines, reduces friction, and increases speed. It is more secure and theft-resistant, offers cleaner and more hygienic interactions, and provides real-time insights that help improve inventory and operations. It also requires less staffing and reduces operational overhead, making it more efficient and cost-effective.
How does your autonomous checkout work?
We use a combination of computer vision, sensor fusion, and edge AI to detect what items a user picks up and process the transaction automatically — no barcode scanning, no cashier, no app download required.
Do you use facial recognition?
No. Tonmous does not use facial recognition or personally identifiable tracking. Our systems recognize products and motion, not people. Privacy and trust are foundational to our design.
Are your systems weather-proof for Canadian climates?
Yes. Our hardware is designed to perform in extreme Canadian conditions — from -30°C winters to +40°C summers — and is well-suited for both indoor and semi-outdoor deployments.
How secure are your systems?
Very. We use encrypted transactions, secure access control (NFC or QR), real-time anomaly detection, and device-level safeguards. Package lockers are tamper-resistant, and vending/café systems include theft deterrents.
Can I customize the inventory or branding?
Absolutely. Whether it’s localized inventory, custom beverage menus, or branded experiences, our systems are modular and customizable to fit your space and your audience.
Do you integrate with building systems or property management tools?
Yes. We offer integration APIs for smart building systems, CRMs, and property tech platforms. Access control systems (like fob entries or smart intercoms) can also be synced where needed.
How long does it take to deploy?
Most solutions can be deployed in under 10 days from site-readiness to go-live. Our plug-and-play design drastically reduces installation complexity compared to traditional vending or retail fit-outs.
Is support or maintenance included?
Yes. We offer full remote diagnostics, predictive maintenance, restocking logistics support, and customer service training as part of every deployment.
